Hiden In Plain Site: Earphoria Austin A Music-Based Community

Earphoria was once a hidden gem in Austin, Texas where music, tiny home living, and intentional community came together in a way that actually works. In 2021 the property they were renting sold, and they had to relocate (I believe to Leander, but I never did make it out there!). This video tour is from 2018 and is an excellent example of a THRIVING community located in an urban area (literally tucked away right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle).

In this tour, I walk through a creative living space built for musicians and artists who want both independence and connection. You will see tiny homes, airstreams, shared infrastructure (indoor and outdoor kitchens!), rehearsal areas, and outdoor gathering spaces designed to support collaboration without sacrificing personal autonomy.

What makes Earphoria stand out is its balance. Residents have their own space while contributing to a larger ecosystem rooted in creativity, sustainability, and mutual support. The entire property reflects a hands-on, build-it-yourself ethos that prioritizes freedom, expression, and real community over convention.

I often stayed at Earphoria Intentional Community and sometimes I traded labor for my stay! I would clean whatever they needed cleaned, and bring them food from my time volunteering at the local food bank. I REALLY enjoyed this community and as I type this I feel inspired to visit them again at their new location.

If you have ever wondered what an artist-centered, family friendly, intentional community looks like in practice, this is a grounded, honest look inside one.
