The recording reflects the community arrangements and personal circumstances of 2024. Below are selected excerpts from my remarks, with transcription errors and punctuation cleaned up.
A place to land
I went on a quest. I lived in a converted school bus for seven and a half years, and I drove from homeschool families’ backyards to campgrounds to intentional communities. And I visited and I explored and I tried to figure out what exactly do I want, what is going to work for me.
I was crystal clear. I knew impeccably what I wanted, where I wanted it to be, how I wanted it to look, what I wanted my lifestyle to be like. And four people suggested Greenbriar Intentional Community.
I had never heard of it before. It was hidden in plain sight right there in Central Texas, where I was already living.
Getting to know one another
You have to go through an onboarding process. And that’s something that my family went through.
I really appreciate it because I showed up like, I don’t need y’all. I’m not desperate for a place to go. So I’m vetting you too, and they’re vetting us, and we’re vetting each other, and there’s a trial period.
Learning and growing together
The vision for Greenbriar is to inspire a passion for self-directed, lifelong learning and growth. Is that not awesome? What an awesome vision.
And this doesn’t just apply to the children. This applies to us too. Lifelong learning, lifelong learning and growth. That means that the people living at Greenbriar are holding the vision of becoming better people. How cool is that? I love it.
Deep roots in multiple places
What I would like to see is something like what I’m showing develop here, so that those of us who have family in Europe and the United States can go back and forth, have deep roots in multiple places.
